Our Story

The Goldie Vineyard is where Kim and Jeanette Goldwater founded winegrowing on Waiheke in 1978

when they planted the Island's first vinifera vineyard. The success of their wines is demonstrated by the fact that there is a new vibrant and well recognised wine region on Waiheke Island. In 1992 the Goldwaters made their first wine in Marlborough and became equally well known for their outstanding Goldwater Sauvignon Blanc (previously Dog Point and New Dog Sauvignon Blanc) and Roseland Chardonnay from this exciting region.

A new vineyard in the highly esteemed Gimblett Gravels sub region of Hawkes Bay was planted for the Goldwaters. It was propogated from their vines on Waiheke Island to produce a Merlot predominant blended red.

In April 2006, Goldwater Wines merged with Vavasour Wines - the pioneering winery from Marlborough's Awatere valley.

In November 2009, the merged Goldwater/Vavasour business was sold to US wine investor, Bill Foley but the Goldwaters retained the ownership of their original vineyards on Waiheke Island.

March 2010 saw the first vintage for Goldie Wines, a great vintage to start with. The next chapter of the family's involvement in the wine industry begins.
